Houston, TX – In a groundbreaking collaboration, NASA has partnered with Indian Ayurvedic doctor Dr. Ezilharasan to explore how traditional healing methods could support astronaut health during long-term space missions.
Dr. Ezilharasan, a seasoned Ayurvedic practitioner with over ten years of clinical experience, will work with a team of space scientists and medical experts to study the potential of herbal treatments and holistic approaches to reduce the physical and mental strain of space travel.
Ayurveda, with its time-tested principles, may offer unique ways to enhance the body's resilience, especially under the extreme conditions of space,” said Dr. Ezilharasan.
“This effort could open doors to new medical frontiers, blending tradition with innovation.
The research will focus on how Ayurvedic methods can assist in managing bone loss, radiation exposure, stress, and other challenges astronauts face beyond Earth. Initial studies will be conducted on Earth at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, with plans to later apply the findings to real space missions—including future flights to the Moon and beyond.
This initiative is part of a joint effort between NASA, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), and India’s Ministry of AYUSH. It is the first time that a specialist in Ayurveda has been invited to contribute to a U.S. space health program.
“This is not just a scientific mission—it’s a symbol of unity between ancient knowledge and modern exploration,” Dr. Ezilharasan remarked.
“Together, we are pushing the boundaries of medicine and space.”
